Verizon just announced a new service that could make your TV obsolete—and give the company a major advantage against its competitors.

Verizon-Plans-Streaming-TV

Verizon has revealed plans to begin streaming live FiOS TV to mobile devices, including (and especially) the iPad. If successful, this could allow the iPad to replace your TV set as the chosen vehicle for watching television programming.

Don’t look for this service to happen overnight—it’s projected to launch next year, and in the beginning, viewers will only be able to watch on mobile devices while at home. Verizon still has to work out agreements with its content providers before releasing the app.

The possibilities are certainly intriguing. Will other cable companies be forced to come up with similar plans in order to compete with Verizon?
