Apples New iOS Device

Within the last decade, Apple has released three products that changed the industry. The iPod revolutionized the way we buy and play music. The iPhone led the smartphone explosion. The iPad created a new product category that the rest if the industry is still trying to catch up with. Now there’s talk that the company known for innovation will unleash another product in the near future.

There seems to be fresh Apple rumors every day. But the latest buzz doesn’t make predictions about the iPad 3 or the iPhone 5. Rather, a developer has uncovered a placeholder in the App Store that suggests the company might release another iOS device.

So does this mean there’s a new Apple device to be unveiled soon, or is it just a glitch? Of course it could be a mistake, but there have been rumors than Apple is working on an HDTV that could be ready by the end of 2011.

“Our research suggests this Smart TV would go well beyond the miniature $99 second-generation Apple TV that the company released last fall and provide a full-blown TV product for consumers,” Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White said in a note to investors.

This would fit nicely with Apple’s upcoming cloud-based system that is rumored to include video content as well as music. If the talk that Apple is negotiating with TV and movie content providers to stream video directly to any device in the home, this could revolutionize the television industry in the same way the iPod and iTunes revolutionized the music industry. If it can be done, Apple is the one to do it.

While the reports of a television are still fresh, the most pervasive recent Apple rumor is that the iPhone 5 has been delayed until the end of the year. In fact, some sources are reporting that production hasn’t even started on the next-generation smartphone.

However, as with all Apple rumors, these reports should be taken with a grain of salt. Apple rarely, if even, comments on rumors. Not surprisingly, reps from the company did not respond to requests for comments on any of these reports.
